Art Club
The Art Club is comprised of a group of talented students that compile art portfolios in water color, charcoal, acrylics and other media. In addition, the students organize school-wide art projects, including hallway decorations and preparation of banners for the Salute to Israel Day Parade. Students are guided by faculty members as well as by visiting local artists.
Baking Squad
The Baking Squad was formed as a direct result of student interest. Students gather a number of times throughout the year and offer baked goods for sale. They research recipes, study Kashrut issues, learn how to shop economically, adhere to a budget, price and market their product, as well as fulfill orders in a timely fashion. Students are guided by parent volunteers as well as WHHS faculty.
Current Events Club
The Current Events Club addresses a number of hot topics in current events. Students discuss the events of the day and also examine how the news is presented. They tackle issues such as distortion in reporting, biased reporting, editorializing and news analysis. Students have the opportunity to meet with journalists to better understand their work.
Dance Club
A dance troupe meets weekly to choreograph and practice three dance routines which they perform at a New York City dance competition in March.
Drama Club
The Drama Club is open to all students who show an interest in the performing arts. Performances are held annually and have included ‘The Odd Couple,’ ‘Squabbles,’ ‘Rumors,’ ‘A Few Good Men, 'Lend Me a Tenor,' and 'Brighton Beach Memoirs.’
Driver Education
The Driver Education program is offered to students who have turned 16 prior to the start of the course. The course includes both classroom sessions and in-car training and prepares students for the practical driving test which can be scheduled with an instructor or independently.
Graphic Arts Club
A select number of students work with the computer lab instructor to design and create sharp computer generated art work. The pieces are then showcased in our publications or presented in art exhibits.
Karate Club – Tora Dojo Martial Arts Association
The goal of the Karate Club is to foster awareness of body dynamics and movement within the framework of classical karate and self defense. Students learn basic stances, blocks, kicks and a variety of traditional forms, as well as sparring techniques. Students hone eye-motor coordination and improve their physical condition, while developing a greater sense of self-discipline and self-worth.
Knitting for Charity
Under the guidance of a talented faculty member, students learn basic knitting techniques and knit afghans, mittens and hats for needy families.
Mishmar
Students and faculty members meet weekly after school in order to learn Torah Lishma. In this informal environment students are able to sharpen their study skills and experience chevruta learning without the pressure of tests. At times learning is done in memory of a community member and culminates with a school-wide siyyum.
Music Society
The Music Society is a group of talented young musicians who bring music to WHHS. They will perform several times throughout the year at various school functions. By participating, students learn to listen to each other and work together to experience the sheer joy of music. Students are exposed to many styles of music, making participation in the society an enjoyable learning experience.
Photography Club
The Photography Club focuses on photography as an art form. Students study the works of famous photographers in order to understand the genre and its contribution to the world of art. Students photograph a wide range of subjects in order to create personal photography portfolios. The Photography Club also photographs various school events and helps choose the photographs used on the WHHS website.
Rowing and Sailing Club
Students take advantage of our prime location on the Long Island Sound and learn basics of sailing or crew rowing. Students train with professionals and learn all aspects of sailing or rowing, including safety regulations, personal training and technical terms. During the course of the sailing program, students visit South Street Seaport for an afternoon of sailing aboard one of the Seaport’s training vessels. Rowing students learn to work as a team and compete with other local crews as available.
Stage Crew
Stage Crew gives students the opportunity to create scenery and work backstage for the school’s theatrical productions. Students help build and paint scenery. They also coordinate props and costumes. The Stage Crew gains experience in the “behind-the-scenes” efforts that are critical to the staging of an excellent performance.
Stock Market and Finance Club
Members of the Stock Market and Finance Club have the opportunity to learn about the world of business, investment and stocks. Students research and chose a stock portfolio which they follow throughout the school year. They discuss their investments with fellow club members and invite guest speakers to talk about investments, financial markets and the business world.
