Austin, Dr. Vance

Coordinator of Student Services & History

Vance Austin, PhD, is currently teaching US History and US Government part-time at WHHS and is also Professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Special Education in the School of Education at Manhattanville University. He has formerly worked as a middle and high school special education teacher in both public and private schools in the Lower Hudson Valley and greater New York metropolitan area, where he accumulated over 30 years of teaching experience. He has also taught in the special education departments of several colleges and universities in the U.S. Dr. Austin’s interests in special education extend beyond the U.S. to include Canada and Vietnam. His current research focus is on developing effective interventions for students with emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as improving the quality of teaching in special education. Dr. Austin has also authored many articles and book chapters, co-authored four books, and presented at numerous national and international conferences on topics related to behavior and classroom management and working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
