Jewish Affairs Committee
The Jewish Affairs Committee coordinates school-wide or grade-specific Chessed (חסד) projects, tzedakah drives and community service projects related to the local Jewish community as well as Jewish communities worldwide. Each grade elects a representative to this committee. Representatives research, initiate and implement programs for the entire school. Events have included: relief mission to Houston to work with Hurricane Katrina victims, Washington DC rally against genocide in Darfur and an Israel Chessed Mission.
Ruach Committee
The Ruach Committee is comprised of a group of students from all grades who promote activities that generate school spirit. Activities include decorating the hallways and classrooms, maintaining bulletin boards and organizing cheering at games.
Bikkur Cholim - Nichum Avelim
Students visit the sick in local hospitals, bringing cheer to patients of all ages. Students deliver gifts to younger patients during the holidays. WHHS students often participate in Shiva minyanim as needed by families in the community. Faculty advisors guide students in ways to bring comfort to hospital patients as well as mourners.
Tzedakah Committee
The Tzedakah Committee coordinates monthly tzedakah drives and designates different recipient organizations. Members of the committee research and inform fellow students about the causes and the importance of giving tzedakah each and every day. They also collect the tzedakah money and distribute it to the chosen funds.
Recruitment Committee
The Recruitment Committee assists in various aspects of our enrollment process. It is open to all students and individuals are selected based on academic achievement, involvement in co-curricular activities and the ability to speak in public. Throughout the fall semester, students attend parlor meetings in different communities as well as the annual Open House. In January, students act as guides and hosts to prospective eighth graders.
Eimatai
Run under the auspices of Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future, a team of our students attends conferences and workshops dealing with the issues facing high school students today. They plan, organize and implement new programs at WHHS utilizing their new skills and resources.
Panim El Panim
Panim El Panim brings together diverse groups of 10th-12th graders from around the country to explore public policy and social activism through a Jewish lens. The seminars take a hands-on approach to policy and Judaism through encounters with leading experts on national and global policy. Participants interact with the people and institutions that shape our society and our world. Simulations, role-play, debates and small group discussions are used to help students apply Jewish values to contemporary social and political issues. Participants emerge with a heightened sense of Jewish identity and a commitment to social and political advocacy.
