De Marco, Ms. Donna

Coordinator, General Studies

Following her graduation from NYU, Ms. De Marco boarded a tour bus and spent seven years guiding people on their vacations across the United States, Atlantic Canada, Italy and Russia. After obtaining an MA in education from the College of New Rochelle, Ms. De Marco taught in both public and private schools. She also served as a teacher trainer in the Bronx Zoo’s Education Department. Since her arrival at WHHS in 2007, Ms. De Marco has been coordinating the WHHS Learning Center and coaching the golf team. More recently she returned to the classroom, teaching a section of 11th grade American Literature. In 2014, Ms. DeMarco became Coordinator of General Studies at WHHS and in this capacity, she works with other WHHS teachers to help all students meet their academic potential in their general studies’ classes. In addition to participating in the Windward Teacher Training Institute’s Expository Writing Workshop, Ms. De Marco participated in the Jewish Education Project’s Day School Collaboration Network’s Design Thinking in Education Program and JNTP’s Mentoring Program. Outside of school, Ms. De Marco can be found chasing a deal as a licensed sales agent for Claire D. Leone Real Estate, driving a golf ball in local WMGA tournaments, attending advisory board meetings at Lake Isle or keeping her dog Elmer away from squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks. Ms. De Marco aspires to live up to the words of the author Charles Platt: "Teachers don't just teach; they can be vital personalities who help young people to mature, to understand the world, and to understand themselves. A good education consists of much more than useful facts and marketable skills."
